President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State’s headquarters, stating that darkness will never triumph over light.
Suspected terrorists are believed to have assaulted the church on Sunday, killing dozens of people and injuring dozens more.
Buhari stated shortly after the incident that Nigeria will never submit to the dictates of individuals he described as “evil and wicked people.”
“No matter what, this country shall never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never overcome the light. Nigeria will eventually win,” the President was quoted as saying via a statement issued by his media aide, Femi Adesina.
Only fiends from the nether zone, according to the President, could have imagined and carried out such a heinous act, adding that they will suffer eternally on earth and in the afterlife.
He expressed his condolences to the deceased’s families, the Catholic Church, and the Ondo State government.
The Commander-in-Chief also ordered emergency agencies to mobilize and provide medical assistance to the injured.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has expressed regret for the attack on the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo on Sunday, and has vowed to track down the perpetrators.
Shortly after the incident, he declared this in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.
“In Owo, it’s a bleak Sunday.” Our hearts are laden with sorrow. The enemies of the people have targeted our calm and tranquillity. Governor Akeredolu said, “This is a personal loss, an attack on our dear state.”
The governor expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and promised to find the perpetrators.
